At 7, Khaled is hoping to a better life and future. He was dreaming to visit and explore the different places that his father kept telling him about every night. But, his dreams vanished in 2006 when an Israeli plane bombarded his village "Marwaheen" and killed his father. Khaled is one of the many orphans we are sponsoring through our child sponsorship programme.
Orphans sponsored in Saida, South Lebanon
When children lose their support through the death of their parents or even just the main breadwinner, the father - not only do they have to cope with the bereavement and uncertainty of the tragedy but also the worry of provision of their basic requirements in life. There are millions of orphans around the world; they are amongst the most vulnerable in society and are often forced into child labour in order to survive. They are deprived of food, clothing and sufficient healthcare. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of all is their lack of education.
Given the opportunity of going to school, these orphans can develop practical skills, which would enable them to break out of the cycle of poverty.
This is where the UKC4C child sponsorship scheme comes in. For only £25 per month (£300 per year) you can help provide school fees, clothes and food parcels.
Our scheme not only works with orphans but with other vulnerable children who find themselves in similar situations due to situations such as disability or injury of the family’s main bread-winner.
Other support for the children includes:
Health care including vaccinations
Shelter
Emotional support for traumatised children
Education and school equipment
Vocational training in practical skills such as information technology and language. If you cannot sponsor an orphan but would still like to help, you could donate to our orphans projects, through the Orphans General Fund.
